Students at Franklin have been bowling for three weeks in Physical Education. We have learned how to hold a bowling ball with the "I love you" sign; not to step past the foul line; to aim at the head pin; and to adjust our position based on where the pins are standing. Students learned how to swing the ball & how to step forward with the opposite foot.
Here we can see most of those things... He's behind the foul line and has his opposite foot forward. Nice job!
This picture shows the correct grip for a bowling ball. The pointer & little fingers out of the holes and the middle two in the holes... as well as the thumb. We started the unit by trying to bowl the ball between two pins... on #7 & #10. (The two outside back row pins). We tried to not knock them over... the opposite of real bowling, but it helped us to learn how to keep the ball on the lane. Then we tried three pins in a small triangle... for example #1 #2 & #3 pins. We could change the triangle to make it harder for our bowling partners, for example, #6, #9 & #10 on the back row. We finished with 6 or 10 pins depending upon the grade. Hey grown ups... "Take us bowling please!"
