Yahara River Chorus Region 22 Sweet Adelines International | |
|
Come visit our other Yahara River Chorus web page What kinds of performances do we give?
We'd love to have you visit one of our rehearsals. The The Yahara River Chorus is a very diverse group of women who get together every week to practice our hobby of singing. We sing 4-part harmony a capella style. Although we are all members of Sweet Adelines International, we don't always sing the traditional type of barbershop music. We have many types of music in our repertoire - oldies, Beatles, show tunes, gospel, etc.
We perform at many functions, both community service venues and paid appearances. Some are open to the public, some are for a specific audience. Some of the places we have performed are the "Christmas Tree Walk" at the Hilldale Mall; BratFest at Willow Park; the National Anthem for both Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, and the Mallards at Warner Park. We also were invited to sing at the Grand Reopening of both East and West Towne Malls at Christmas.
We produce one major show every year for the public. The last few years we were fortunate to be able to perform at the DeForest Performing Arts Center adjoining the High School in DeForest. This show is traditionally held in the fall. Our upcoming show is called Alphabet Soup and will have songs use song to represent the letters of the alphabet.
At "Holiday Time", we put on a couple of free shows, usually at more than one location, often at some of the Madison area churches or Senior Residential Facilities. It is advertised to the public and the only admission we ask of the audience is the donation of a non-perishable food item to the church's food pantry, or a cash free will offering for a charity. It is our way of giving back to the communities in which we live.
We performed in Washington D.C. as a representative of the State of Wisconsin. The 2005 National Festival of the States was a large music celebration celebrating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. This music festival took place at many venues in our national capital and ran from February through November. Only two groups from each state were invited to perform. Our group is honored to have been invited to sing in our nation's capital.
We did our best to represent our state. We compete every year at the regional level against other choruses around the region. This usually occurs in the Spring of the year. It is a weekend that we all look forward to because it is a great weekend spent with our sister Sweet Adelines from our region, 22, which covers Wisconsin, parts of Illinois, Iowa and Michigan.
