AAII The American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) is a not-for-profit organization that specializes in providing education on topics such as stock investing, mutual funds, portfolio management, retirement planning and more. AAII arms investors with the knowledge and tools needed to manage their finances effectively and profitably. Besides a monthly journal covering general educational topics, AAII offers a bimonthly Computerized Investing Journal, a web site at http://www.aaii.com, and periodic meetings at over 70 local chapters located in major metropolitan areas. Local chapter meetings are organized and run by volunteers. The meetings provide members with investment education in a social format. As a subgroup to the Milwaukee Chapter, the AAII Madison Subgroup serves the needs of individual investors in the Dane County area and beyond including Watertown, Monroe, Poynette, and other Wisconsin cities. Meetings AAII's reputation is built on providing unbiased investor education. AAII does not allow advertising in any of its publications or in materials used by speakers in their presentations. However, a table is available at meetings to display promotional materials to be viewed or taken at the discretion of meeting attendees. A sign-up sheet is also a good idea for those who would like more information about the speaker or topic. Speakers at AAII chapter meetings find audiences to be above average in investment knowledge and intensity of interest. Many speakers have commented favorably on the sophistication of questions asked during the Question & Answer session that typically follows the speaker's presentation. Madison Subgroup As a new endeavor, AAII Madison Subgroup is off to a strong start. 55 investors attended our first meeting in September 2002. Since then attendance has ranged between 20 to 75 investors. We have six seminar meetings a year, three in the fall and three for the winter/spring time period. Meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of February, March, May, September, October, and November. Check this web site to confirm meeting dates. Speakers are needed for future dates. Please contact us to sign-up for a future speaking engagement. Meetings are usually held at the Sequoya branch of the Madison Public Library. Meetings begin at 6 PM. Please check this web site for the latest time and location information. Combine Forces You might consider joining forces with AAII when making a presentation to your existing or potential client base, students or other interested groups. For example, our November 2002 meeting combined AAII members with Williams Young clients. That meeting featured Gary Friedman, a director of Williams Young, speaking on the topic "Tax Planning in a Down Market." Gary's talk was of benefit to his clients and he was able to reach a new audience of AAII members. Recently AAII members joined with clients from Chicago-based PTI Securities for a presentation on conservative options strategies. Thank you for your interest in speaking at an AAII seminar meeting in Madison. |
