"Health care reform, SeniorCare Rx, campaign finance reform, fair taxation and the Wisconsin state budget are the five main priorities that AARP Wisconsin will be focusing on throughout 2007. "More than anything else, we will be supporting efforts that move our state towards ensuring a health care system that provides comprehensive, affordable, quality health care services for all Wisconsinites," said AARP Wisconsin state president Patricia Finder-Stone. "AARP Wisconsin believes that government, employers, and individuals all share in the responsibility of paying for the health care system." "Any reform measures must include financing that is equitable, broadly based and affordable to all. "All our priorities are important, but health care reform and sustaining SeniorCare are at the top of the list," Finder-Stone said. "The legislature is already taking steps to repair campaign finance laws, and we were pleased with many of the provisions in Governor Jim Doyle's proposed state budget. We look forward to working closely with legislators this session to improve other issues such as fair taxation." "Some of the budget items that are already being addressed include expansion of the Volunteer Ombudsmen program, a significant increase in the cigarette tax, expansion of home and community-based services and funding for elderly and disabled transportation aids.
