Basil Rathbone
This web page honors one of Hollywood's greatest screen and stage actors: Basil Rathbone. Rathbone was perhaps best known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the 1930s and 1940s, but he gave outstanding performances in many, many other films as well. Rathbone also appeared in many plays, and his voice could be heard in numerous radio broadcasts and recordings.

Sherlock Holmes American Online Exhibition
A major American exhibition on Sherlock Holmes at Indiana University in 2001 now is available online. The "Bloomington by Gaslight" exhibit displays many of the Sherlock Holmes items featured in that event at the world-famous Lilly Library. It included the only surviving letter from Holmes to Watson in a fragment of the manuscript of "Final Problem," original manuscripts by Arthur Conan Doyle, and many other items. The Basic Holmesian Library -- the "Shaw 100"
John Bennett Shaw of the Baker Street Irregulars in 1983 first released his basic 100 publications for serious Sherlockians to have in their personal collections. The list was updated in 1988. Here's that list.

The Strand magazine
The Strand magazine published the first Sherlock Holmes short story, "A Scandal in Bohemia," in 1891, was very successful for a time, but later ceased publication. It's been revived.
