Alex Martin, the Chorus' Assistant Musical Director, was the recipient of the Madison Chapter's highest award to a member, the Barbershopper of the Year, at ceremonies held Saturday night. In making the presentation, fellow board member and past recipient of the award, Roger Phelps, noted that Alex had shown extraordinary dedication and willingness to go the extra mile during the past year. He said Alex had chaired the important Annual Show Committee for the previous two years, had written scripts for the shows, including comedy routines in which he also performed, and previously served as chairman of the Music and Performance Committee. Chapter President Mike McCowin also noted that "during our recent transition to a new music director, Alex has ably fulfilled the responsibility for planning and directing rehearsals and providing music leadership for the chorus." The award recognized his contributions throughout calendar year 2005. The announcement and presentation was made at the Chapter's annual Awards and Recognition banquet, held each January. New club officers also were installed at the event. |
