We received as a gift in July 2008 this black and white photo -- shown below in reduced size -- of the Capitol Chordsmen Chorus in 1955. (The original measures 4 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches.) The Chorus then was only 10 years old, having been established as World War II was ending. The back contains a notation that the Chorus had been the Land O'Lakes District Champion Chorus in 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1953. (We're not sure of the boundaries of the District in 1955. Today it consists of 53 choruses in the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota, the western half of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and western Ontario.) The photo donor was longtime Chorus member Mike Liscum of Madison who retired from the group in December 2007. Also a member in 1955, he's shown in the back row, sixth from the left. Can you help us identify any of those shown? So far, we've confirmed the following identifications (shown left to right):
Front row: 1st John Bremmer; 2nd Jim Lauridson; 3rd Don Foellmi; 4th Cal Browy; 5th George Burgin; 6th Joe Ripp, Director; 7th Jim Bennett, 8th Jay Tschudy; 9th Jerome Wendt; 10th ? Second row: 1st Jack Brewer; 2nd Henry Witte; 3rd Lou Sather; 4th Ken Clayton; 5th ?; 6th Dave Faurbach; 7th ?; 8th Art Woerple; 9th Myron Boebel, Third row: 1st Jim Green; 2nd Clem Haswell; 3rd Dick O'Leary; 4th Chuck Linderud; 5th Joe Hermsen; 6th Joe Coyne; 7th Jack Kammer; 8th Claire Redder. Back row: 1st ?; 2nd ?: 3rd, Roy Brumley; 4th Wimpy Adler; 5th John Kraus; 6th Mike Liscum; 7th ? (Not all Chorus members are shown in the photo.) If you can help, or would like us to email you a larger version of the photo to examine, just contact us at barbershoppers@hotmail.com One more request: if you happen to know any surviving Chorus members from 1955 or any family members of those in the photo, please consider letting them know about this photo. Thanks! |
