For the full story and a photo, click here Joshua Oxley has been chosen by the Barbershop Harmony Society's Madison Chapter as Music Director of its Capitol Chordsmen Chorus, effective Feb. 1. Josh, age 20, previously had directed the Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus in Oshkosh and was founder and director of the Oshkosh West High School Barbershop Chorus during his high school years. He sings in a quartet, The Cheery-Os, which won the 2005 Packerland Division Novice Quartet Championship and went on to finish 11th in District competition. He comes from a barbershop family. His father, Todd, once directed the Winnebagoland Chorus and his younger brother Jacob currently directs the Oshkosh West Barbershop Chorus. Josh has attended both the Young Men in Harmony Camp and the Barbershop Harmony Society's Director's College. Chapter President Mike McCowin said in announcing Josh's selection: "Those of us who have recently experienced Josh's directing talents from the risers have been very impressed by both the breadth and depth of his knowledge of our craft, as well as his natural leadership qualities." "We all look forward to an exciting and dynamic opportunity to expand our horizons under Josh's direction." Josh, who also sings tenor with the Chorus, says his goal in his new positon is to "create a fun and professional environment for the Capitol Chordsmen to grow their sound and membership through barbershop harmony." He replaces Elaine Smiley, who had served as Music Director for the past five years. |
