Two internationally-competitive quartets headline the Capitol Chordsmen's annual all-a cappella show April 5, which also includes the Capitol Chordsmen Chorus, our Harmony Marketplace and Afterglow. Tickets now are on sale for our biggest show of the year with headliners "Reveille" and "Bandwagon" quartets.
APPEARING ON STAGE "REVEILLE" has competed in annual international competitions held by the Barbershop Harmony Society multiple times, placing in the Top 20 and as high as 12th in the last five years. The quartet members are part of New York City's award-winning Big Apple Chorus, which placed 15th in barbershop international competition in 2007. A versatile quartet, Reveille commands a repertoire remarkable in its variety, ranging from traditional ballads, to original comedy, to Sinatra, to contemporary swing, and featuring hot charts from a variety of top arrangers, many from the fertile brain of the late great Roger Payne, the quartet's original tenor. Members of the group are: Fern Sicilia (tenor), the group's newest member who is a high school music teacher/choral director; Dr. John Ward (lead), a New York City chiropractor and four-time district quartet champion; Mark Paul, (bass), a leadership trainer/consultant who formerly was a member of the West Towns Chorus in Lombard, Ill, and now is the bass section leader of the Big Apple Chorus; and Joe Hunter (baritone), musical director of the Big Apple Chorus and a vice president of software development for JPMorgan Chase Bank. "BANDWAGON" consists of members of the Twin Cities' area Great Northern Chorus. GNU was the headliner on our 2007 annual show. Bandwagon qualified to complete at the Barbershop Harmony Society's annual international competition in 2007. Formed in January 2005, the four were silver medalists in the 2006 Land O' Lakes District competition (Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota, as well as western Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan). The members are Dr. Keith Olson (tenor), a dentist in Montevideo who has sung barbershop for 20 years; Sam Sather (lead), a music teacher in the Chaska, Minn., school system who has sung with college quartets at International competitions; Jim Larson (baritone), vice president for Best Buy who also has sung in three district championship quartets, and Jim Barloon (bass), an agent for Northwestern Mutual Life who has sung in two district championship quartets. Their appearance on our show is likely to draw some of their fans from around the Midwest as this will be the group's last public performance before it retires.
