About Us

The Cultural Italian American Organization (CIAO!) had its beginnings in early 2001 when a group of Italian Americans decided to form an Italian social club for men and women. The purpose of the club was to preserve and maintain their Italian culture and heritage. A constitution/bylaws were prepared and a social committee appointed. In April 2001, CIAO! elected its first officers to determine its future direction.

During the first year, forty-five people of Italian American descent or spouses of Italian Americans joined the club. They began by holding dinner meetings or potlucks. The Social Committee planned a number of social activities to include grape stomping/wine testing excursion, dinner cruise, attendance at Italian festas, and cultural speakers at meetings. During that year, CIAO! participated in the Italian Workmen's Club Festa Italia held each June. Our club served Italian sandwiches and cannoli in order to raise funds to continue its cultural mission. During its second year in existence, CIAO! members decided to meet every other month for a business meeting and the alternate month for a social occasion.
