New Neighborhood Projects for 2007 - Update
By Randy Glysch |
Update - At the June 19th Common Council Meeting, it was recommended that the Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood CEP proposals be approved for funding.
This will probably be our most ambitious and busiest year as a neighborhood association. The new association board identified several priorities and projects for 2007, and it's exciting. We'll be applying for grants from the city to help with the following new projects:
New trees and shrubs in and around Carpenter-Ridgeway Park.
Two new perennial beds, one behind Associated Bank at Carpenter St. and Wright St, and also a new bed near the corner of Gannon and Lexington Ave.
New dwarf crabapple trees added to the Carpenter St. median.
A new Walking/Biking Map with safe neighborhood routes.
New tree seedlings near and around Starkweather Creek.
A new collaboration with the Design Center (Steve Steinhoff from the Design Center will be one of our presenters at the March 22nd General Neighborhood Meeting) for a Neighborhood Walkabout and Focus Group Sessions to identify areas and places for potential improvement in the neighborhood that could evolve into future neighborhood projects. This would take place in Fall of 2007.
Revitalization of our Neighborhood Watch Program. New training materials and events for residents regarding the program. Materials will ordered and provided in an upcoming newsletter.
We will also have a project this year to build new bat and birds houses. We will purchase the necessary materials to build the bat and birds houses, have an event where neighbors interested in putting a bat or bird house on their home/yard will come together and build the houses. We'll create the templates, cut the wood, and have
everything ready for assembly. We'll have an event to assemble the houses together. The is a great project to get rid of some neighborhood mosquitos and help the birds find shelter. A copy of the proposed plans will be available at the March 22nd General Meeting.
