Benefits of Park & Recreation
|
"It costs approximately $30,000 to incarcerate a juvenile offender for one year. If that money were available to the Park and Recreation Department, we could:
- Take him/her swimming twice a week for 24 weeks
- Give him/her four tours of the Zoo plus lunch
- Enroll him/her in 50 Community Center programs
- Visit Oxley Nature Center twice
- Let him/her play league softball for a season
- Tour the gardens at Woodward Park twice
- Give him/her two weeks of tennis lessons
- Enroll him/her in two weeks of day camp
- Let him/her play three rounds of golf
- Act in one play
- Participate in one fishing clinic
- Take a four-week pottery class
- Play basketball eight hours a week for 40 weeks after which we could return to you: $29,124 and one much happier kid."
