Classroom Experience

Participants spend classroom time improving basic skills, preparing for the high school equivalency, upgrading independent living capabilities, studying a pre-employment career development curriculum, acquiring and practicing leadership skills, and undertaking job market and vocational program exploration. As young people learn to recognize their skills, they also explore types of service they may perform to benefit the community. Preparation to enter post-secondary education and beginning the job search then leads to post-program placement.
As needed, young people receive supportive in-house social services and counseling. Assessment and referral to outside social service and health providers for specialized care and treatment is also arranged. Health care assessments, education, and referral are provided by OFS' in-house health clinic. OFS also offers participants two free, nutritious meals per day.
