About the Farm

Schumacher Farm County Park
Waunakee, Wisconsin
608-849-4559

...offering the aura and values of rural Dane County during the 1920s-1930s

Schumacher Farm Park
began in 1978 as a 40-acre donation to Dane County by Marcella Schumacher Pendall, the daughter of early settlers. She envisioned it becoming a public learning facility, living history museum, and respite for all ages. She founded the Friends of Schumacher Farm for this mission. In 2001, the park was enlarged with the purchase of 80 adjacent acres. The park includes an early 1900s farmstead with spacious and shady grounds, a 10-acre prairie restoration, heirloom gardens, farm machinery and farmhouse museums, picnic tables and hiking trails. Farm outbuildings typical of the period are being restored at the site.

Schumacher Farm teaches young people about rural lifeways of the 1920s and 1930s. It also serves as an outdoor classroom for learning about nature and ecology, and as a local historical research facility. The buildings and grounds are available for class field trips, family celebrations, and social and professional gatherings. The Friends offer and depend on a broad range of volunteer activities for all ages.
