Do you know any Italian phrases or expressions? Want to learn more? Some of these expressions are formal and some are informal. They were randomly selected and are in no particular order.

Tutto bene? o Tutto a posto? Everything OK? or Everything OK (i.e., Everything is in its place)?
Sì, grazie! Yes, thank you!
Come sta, oggi? How are you, today? (formal)
Sa che ore sono? Do you know what time it is? (formal)
A mercoledì! See you Wednesday!
Meglio tardi che mai! Better late than never!
Lei è divertente. She's amusing/fun. (not formal)
Lei è un guastafeste. She's a party-pooper. (not formal)
Stare fra i piedi di qualcuno. (Levati dai piedi, che mi dai fastidio!) To annoy someone.
Stare con i piedi per terra. To be realistic.
Questo è come il cacio sui maccheroni. This is like cheese on macaroni (i.e., This is just what the doctor ordered).
Meglio un uovo oggi, che una gallina domani! One egg today is better than one hen tomorrow!
Quando il gatto non c'è, i topi ballano! When the cat's away, the rats dance!
Far prender aria ai denti. To say nonsenses.
Ma che dici?! What are you talking about?!
Stai scherzando?! Are you kidding?!
Per carita! You must be joking! (Literally: For charity!)
Non scherzo!! I'm not joking (I'm serious)!
Battere il ferro finchè è caldo. To insist on something or to not miss an occasion.
L'hai trovata l'America!! You've finally reached your happiness!
Tutto è bene quel che finisce bene. All's well that ends well.
C'è qualcuno che parla italiano qui? Is there someone who speaks Italian here?
In bocca al lupo! La risposta: Crepi il lupo. In the mouth of the wolf (i.e., Break a leg or Good luck)! Response: Let the wolf die.
Tocca ferro. Touch the iron (i.e., Knock on wood).
Un nichelino per un pensiero. A penny for your thoughts.
Fa un freddo cane! It's dog cold! (i.e., It's freezing out!)
Non lamentarti, c'è chi sta peggio. Don't complain, there are people who feel worse.
Fatti vivo! Stay in touch! (informal)
