[IAT Map 1-105f] Marvelous hobby or classroom project possibilities. Play a valuable role in our Cold Cache program creating environmental education sites! Gems are waiting to be found already--unlimited supply yet to discover. GeoCaching: outdoor treasure-hunt using a GPS receiver or other navigational tools to hide and seek "caches" containing a logbook and "treasure" (usually trinkets of little value).
EarthCaching is similar, except you seek out natural features instead of human-placed caches.
ColdCaching is a type of EarthCache, discovering natural features along the IAT. Click here for current sites. Each one includes instructions for a simple task or questions to verify your find.

Prairie Moraine Co Park Restoration/Corridor Clearing

[IAT map 66f]Other date: Feb 20 Chop, haul and build brush piles to open up the hillside for the view, the restoration effort, future trail layout and the sheer fun! Meet at 9 AM. Take the Cty PB exit of the Hwy 18/151 Verona bypass and turn left (south) ~0.7 mi to the Prairie Moraine Park parking lot. Wear appropriate work clothes and bring water and a snack or lunch if you plan to stay into the afternoon. Winter Rendevous

Central Wisconsin Environmental Station in Portage County is the location for our traditional "off-season" gathering of volunteers who miss each other and a welcoming for new faces. Besides getting all excited for the upcoming Mobile Skills Crew calendar, we play in the snow at the Iola winter sports complex (downhill & X-country), hike the IAT (of course) and have a few rounds of laughter watching our Year in Review DVD. Valley View Restoration

Some places lodge deep within and stir the soul: Straight Lake State Park in Polk county is such a place. Wake to the call of Trumpeter Swans and sleep by the wail of coyote. Foot by foot, volunteers will construct sustainable tread, build retaining walls, and enjoy jaw-dropping scenery. Campsite, meals, showers, tools provided. Trail construction ~8:00 am-4:30 pm. Unique features include ephemeral ponds, basalt outcroppings and the finest example of a glacial tunnel channel in the Midwest. Two high quality, undeveloped lakes provide memorable solitude. The rolling glacial terrain supports extensive forest approaching old growth characteristics. Nearby attractions include Interstate Park, Ice Age Interpretive Center, the renowned Dalles of the St. Croix gorge, and the Potholes trail. Dress for variable weather.
