Volunteer Opportunities
Adopt A Trail Segment
This opportunitiy is ideal for groups such as scouts, church groups, garden clubs. Your group can select a segment of trail or a feature of the trail such as a bridge and be responsible for the ongoing care and upkeep.Segments are available in Marquette and Columbia Co. Community Stewardship: Self Selected Workdays
April thru Oct: Community groups can self select dates to do work on the Trail at the Ice Age Trail Segment at John Muir Park south of Montello on Hwy F.
Contact chapter coordinator for specific task recommendations, tools. Typical tasks include: invasive plant marking for the DNR chemical application:( Reed Canary Grass, Spotted Knapweed, Sweet Clover, and Garlic Mustard),brush removal on the trail, roadside clean up along Hwy F or Gillette Road, weed wacking path width when it narrows at mid summer.
Like to Work Alone?
April thru Oct: Community groups or individuals can self select dates to do work on the Ice Age Trail Segment at John Muir State Natural Area south of Montello on Hwy F.
Contact chapter coordinator for specific task direction. A record of volunteer work hours is appreciated. Typical tasks include: invasive plant marking for the DNR chemical application (Reed Canary Grass, Spotted Knapweed, Sweet Clover, Garlic Mustard),brush/branch removal on the trail, or roadside clean up along Hwy F or Gillette Road. Wear log pants, bring gloves and water.
Trail Monitor
Many people walk the trail regularly. If you observe changes or damage to the trail that you feel needs attention or if you observe misuse of the trail please notify the chapter coordinator. wolenbrg@palacenet.net or 608-429-4169
