JOHN BELL'S FLAG DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM GIVES PLEASURE TO MANY

JOHN BELL ONE OF FEW CHAPTERS TO STILL GIVE FLAGS TO NEW CITIZENS

One of the activities that gives the members of John Bell the most pleasure is greeting our newest citizens at their Naturalization Ceremony, and presenting them with their own American Flags. And,the smiles and thank yous our members receive tells us that this program is just as popular with our new citizens.
John Bell is one of the few chapters in the country that still does this regularly. We have been doing so for as long as any one can remember. Until recently, we distributed only a couple hundred of the small flags yearly. But, about four years ago, due to changes in immigration laws and policies, the number of people being naturalized jumped dramatically. In 1999, we presented over 1800 flags, and the number in the last three years has ranged from about 1000 to 1800 yearly.
Incidently, our little flag girl logo is derived from this activity and our role as "flag ladies". The skirt is in the form of a bell.
