Spring Fling a Success!
Annual Community Party
Alyssa Kenney |
Sunday May 4th was sunny and afternoon temperatures soared to almost seventy degrees. It was a great day to be out in the Kennedy Heights Neighborhood. Well over on ehundred children and youth were joined by parents, teachers, and center staff and volunteers. Six different youth groups performed on the homemade stage including KOJO, the Little 'Hood Dancers, Girls Inc. and the Bayview Hmong dancers. Many youth performances were so popular that youth performanced an encore performance later in the day. In addition to youth performances an active children's area included a ring toss, fishing, bean bag games, face painting, and mask making. Lines of children waited patiently for their turn to try their skill at different games.
The Boys Group hosted community competitions throughout the afternoon, a hoop shoot-out tournament, an egg toss, a three legged race and as a finale to the day - a pudding eating contest. The Girls' group hosted a bake sale which sold out within the first hour. The Women's group hosted knitting and Hmong needlepoint demonstrations during the Fling. The northside planning process attended the event to gather resident input into the neighborhood plan and the timebank came and distributed information. The UW Science Outreach program organized a budding science area.
The Spring Fling would not have been possible without support from Northside TownCenter, AnchorBank, Madison Chiropractic, Madison Mallards and Oscar Mayer. A huge THANK YOU to sponsors, staff members, volunteers and our hard working board of Directors.
