Celebrate African American History

PURPOSE:

The Kujichagulia goals and mission is to improve the quality of life for Madison's African-American community through positive reinforcement of its heritage as well as enhancing its ability to become a more effective part of the total Madison Community Kujichagulia MCSD will work to unite Madison's African American community to address the collective issues that places certain sectors of its community at risk for drug addiction, criminal justice system involvement, homelessness, HIV/AIDS and academic failure. Kujichagulia MCSD will encourage African Americans in the areas of personal and economic empowerment; leadership development through partnerships and advocacy for individuals, families in Madison, focusing predominantly in the African American communities.

GOALS:

1. Develop family based strategies that reduce factors that place them at risk.
2. Promote a sense of community, pride and self-determination within the African American Community.
3. Reduce complexity in service delivery that will bridge service gaps and barriers that exist between service providers and the African American population.
4. Serve as an Advocate for African Americans to address issues of poverty that will improve their quality of life in the City of Madison.
