National High School Oratorical Contest
|
The National High School Oratorical Contest is a program for high school students nationwide
to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Constitution of the United States. Other objectives are those of leadership, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and
preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, rights and privileges of American
citizenship.
High school students and home schoolers are eligible to compete by preparing orations based upon
the Constitution of the United States. Extemporaneous feature talks, which follow the prepared
oration, are also based on the US Constitution.
Up to $20,000 in scholarship money can be awarded to the winner at National. At the District
level here the winner receives $300.00 and $75.00 at the county level. Local competition begins
in early December with the District contest in January. All high schools receive information
from Department on the contest.
