- Where Do Spent Transfers Go?
When the new automated fare system was installed, Metro administration decided to stop equipping busses with a small trash bag for spent transfers. The new transfers are less biodegradable than before due to their waxy coat. Wonder why you see a plethora of expired transfers littering every downtown bus and bus stop? It is not because Metro has not been notified about the issue, numerous times.
- Loose Bricks at Curb of W. Johnson and Lake St. Stop
Madison's city coordinator in charge of the summer street repair work will not give priority to repairing the curb at the heavily-used eastbound bus stop at W. Johnson and Lake St., despite repeated pleas about the difficulties presented by the damaged curb to those bus riders who are physically less mobile when they board buses at that stop. With about five feet of the curb missing, the bricks of the sidewalk terrace are falling into the street. The hazard barrier, placed at the site of the broken bricks, has disappeared and not been replaced. Its absence has been brought to the attention of the city’s sidewalk coordinator, but to no avail. UW has alerted its repair crew to fix the bricks promptly once the curb has been replaced by the city.
UPDATE: Finally--in the last half of November!--the city's sub-contractor got around to repairing this curb area; we will now alert the University staff, who have promised to respond promptly, that the brick work of the terrace area by the curb can now be repaired by them.
