Volunteer Opportunities with MACAW
Adopt a Highway Volunteers Needed! (Currently on hold)
Currently, this opportunity is on hold, need 6 more volunteers!
Are you looking for ways to exercise, to spring into shape, and to have fun while helping your club and community? Then MACAW is looking for you! Volunteers are needed to help with the "Adopt a Highway" project to help keep our adopted highway clean. Our section of road runs from Gammon Rd to Whitney Way on the eastbound side of Hwy 12. Look for our sign and honk if you see us out there working! Please contact MACAW1@charter.net for more information.
Bird Ambassadors Needed (On Hold)
The new aviary is now open everyday until 4PM. If you haven't been there yet, this is a must see if you are in Madison.
Our zoo had asked our club if we would be interested in helping them monitor the traffic coming through the aviary, and help answer visitor questions. It was a great opportunity. We solicited volunteers, but couldn't get enough people who would be willing to spend a few hours over the weekends to help. We keep this opportunity up here in the event that there is a spike in interest to do this, at which time we will go to the zoo and offer to help them any way we can. But first, we need a lot of volunteers!
To learn more about this exciting opportunity, or to be added to our list of ambassador volunteers, please contact MACAW1@charter.net.
Bird Toy Maker
One thing we do, especially around the holidays, is make toys for the birds that are in avian rescues or at the humane society. No experience necessary, as you learn on the job!
We usually bring in some snacks, maybe a movie to watch, and chit chat as we make fun toys for the birds. Come join us and help make a disadvantaged bird's life just a little happier.
MACAW TV Volunteers Needed (On Hold)
MACAW TV, nominated in 2004 for a WYOU Academy Award, is a program MACAW put together that aired weekdays on WYOU TV to help educate the community on bird care and avian welfare issues.
We produced, edited and directed the TV show and it was a lot of fun. The downside to this was it took a lot of time filming and editing the programs. But if there is interest in doing this again, I would be happy to work with you to bring MACAW TV back.
Opportunities for program producers, editors, script writers and assistants exist if there is interest. Whether you want to be in pictures, or help behind the scenes, MACAW TV has something for everyone.
Please contact MACAW1@charter.net for more information.
Thank you!
