Values The Mad-City Ski Team is a family-oriented organization that promotes positive character development, citizenship, leadership, personal and mental fitness in an environment free of insensitive language, substance abuse, racial, sexual and ethnic discrimination and harassment. Members of the team will conduct themselves in a manner consistent with these socially acceptable family values. History The Mad-City Ski Team was created by the consolidation of the Madison Water Ski Show Team and Capitol City Ski Team. A brief history of each club follows. The Capitol City Ski Team was established in 1963 by a group of water ski enthusiasts from Madison and the surrounding communities. Their goal was to offer inexpensive entertainment to families through the sport of show skiing. In the early 1970's, the team entered their first State and National Water Ski Show Tournament and in 1972 through 1975, the team won the State and Midwest Regional Show Skiing Championship title. In 1975, the Capitol City Ski Team won their first of five consecutive National Show Skiing Championships. "Cap City" was also honored by the American Water Ski Federation for being a pioneer in the sport of show skiing. Madison Water Ski, Inc. was founded in 1986 and with it a new philosophy was born – providing quality instruction and practice time for young water ski enthusiasts. In 1988, the Silver Bullet Ski Shows were begun with two "road shows" in Prairie Du Chien and weekly productions at Law Park in Madison. In 1989, the club became "The Young American Skiers" and continued to grow and mature as a team with the beginning of an instruction program that was held at Cherokee Lake. In 1990 the team competed for the first time in the Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Tournament and came home with a first place trophy in Division III. The next several years were strong growth years for the club as it moved into Division II and then Division I for State competition. A sponsorship change made it necessary to change the team name once again to "The Madison Water Ski Show Team." The desire to continue the growth trend of the Madison Water Ski Show Team and the long and respected traditions of the Capitol City Ski Team spawned serious discussions about "what could be." Negotiations to mutually adopt the philosophies that had made both teams successful took place and, in January of 1995, the two became one – The Mad-City Ski Team. Through the formation of the Mad-City Ski Team, we give our fans some of the finest water ski performances this area has seen with all of Madison's show skiing talent showcased in one large team. The Mad-City Ski Team represents the Madison area in "championship" style! |
