About Obihiro

Obihiro
Obihiro is in the middle of Hokkaido, one of four islands in the northern part of Japan.

The city is situated almost in the center of the Tokachi Plain, a region called "the breadbasket of Japan," used for large-scale agriculture as well as dairy and livestock breeding management.

Agriculture is Obihiro's main industry, followed by food processing, agricultural machinery production, electronics and bio-technology. Major agricultural products include wheat, potatoes, beans, beets, milk and beef.

Attractions include the Obihiro Museum of Art, the Obihiro Centennial Museum, and the Shichiku Flower Garden. Obihiro hosts annual festivals throughout the year, such as the Obihiro Ice Festival (January), Obihiro Cherry Blossom Festival (May), and Stomp the Green/ EarthFest (September). In late summer, Tokachi is the site of a major hot air balloon festival.
