5th Annual Madision Area Music Awards (MAMA) Show The mission of the MAMAs is to support the preservation and expansion of all forms of music education in the Madison area, and to encourage and promote the artistic advancement of our emerging musical youth. The voting his year's Madison Area Music Awards officially ends on April 30th. Please remember that there is a $5 fee to vote, but it goes straight to helping buy instruments and keep music programs in Madison-area schools, it's tax deductable, and you'll be supporting local music. The Madison Blues Society has been an active supporter of The MAMA's since its inception. It has continued that support this year by presenting The MAMA's Executive Director Rick Tvedt a check made out to The MAMAs in the amount of $100 at the live blues music fundraiser for the MAMA on April 11th, 2008.
Next Madison Blues Society Meeting MBS meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month. They start at 6:00 PM and end by 7:30 PM and are held at J.T.Whitney's, located across from the Whitney Way Shopping Center on Whitney Way (exits off the West Beltline). Anyone and everyone who is interested in lending a hand with MBS's many worthwhile activities in the Madison area is welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings! The meeting room is located in the back of JT Whitney's. Food and drinks can be ordered during the meeting. A live free blues jam, beginning after 8:00 PM, typically follows the meeting. You do not have to be a member of the Madison Blues Society to attend the meetings, but why on Earth wouldn't you want to? (Click on "Membership Form" link in the left hand column of this page for details on becomming a MBS member.)
MBS 'S 6TH ANNUAL BLUES PICNIC IN THE PARK! There will also be the usual great selection of ethnic foods, Blues merchandise and beer. All this in a beautiful park where family and friends can get together for a fun day in the sun. This year, the MBS has partnered with the East Madison Community Center (EMCC) to do Joe Nosek's "Blues Kids" program teaching kids how to play harmonica and write songs and lyrics. The "Blues Kids" will perform at picnic backed up by the Cash Box Kings.
