Memorial Mile - A Week Long Event

Madison VFP will again erect a memorial to 4,500+ US dead in the Iraqi-Afghanistan wars. (Click the home page to the upper left to read the story about the November Veterans' Day Memorial Mile event with photos.)
Volunteers will be needed both to assemble additional tombstones in mid-May, as well as to erect the stones on Sunday morning, May 25 at Olbrich Park on Madison's near east side. Volunteers will also be needed to to answer questions about the project and to provide a neighborhood watch at the site each night to safeguard the display.

Memorial Day Peace Rally
Date: 5/26/2008
A Memorial Day peace rally will be held by Madison VFP at James Madison Park, starting at 1pm. Plan to attend.
Speakers include Robert Koehler, an award-winning Chicago journalist and nationally syndicated political writer for Tribune Media Services, Fran Wiedenhoeft, Iraq veteran and VFP chapter coordinator, and Iraq veteran Dan Kaufman.
This event is free and open to the public. Last year over 300 attended. Chairs will be set up in the park near the Gates of Heaven building and the memorial to the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Music will also be provided. The event will conclude with a flower ceremony honoring the memory of the volunteer Abraham Lincoln Brigade, including Clarence Kailin, a founding member of Madison Veterans for Peace.
June Monthly Meeting

The June membership meeting will be held at the Main Library in downtown Madison, 2nd floor, starting at 6pm. Guests are always welcome and need not be veterans.
