Our mission is to inform, support, and advocate for students and families of African American descent in the public schools.

The Coalition is a non-profit organization with a dual purpose:

1) to assist families in obtaining the best possible educational experiences and opportunities for their children; and

2) to effect systematic anti-racist change in the public school system.

Our Goals:

1) To establish Black history/culture classes district-wide;

2) To work with Designated Schools each year on closing the academic gap through parent groups controlled by parents and students;

3) To collaborate with parents and the community for meaningful involvement in the education of all African American children.

We offer opportunities for involvement at three levels:

1) Receiving/offering assistance one-on-one, or in groups;

2) Attending/serving as an advocate/ally at education-related functions; and,

3) Serving as an active member on our Board and on one of the committees.

We are challenging racism through honoring the right of people of color to determine their own path; to nurture leadership from within; and to respect the rights of those who desire a safe space for dialogue.
