The Capitol City Band

About Us

MMQ was founded in 1982 and is now one of the premier professional performing groups in Wisconsin. It is a unique percussion ensemble that is exciting to see and to hear. You have to see them to believe what four outstanding musicians can do with their hands and eight or more mallets to play the full range of the symphonic literature from Mendelssohn to Miles Davis with a little Joplin and Ellington in between.

The sound of four marimbas playing together is amazing from the first note of Amazing Grace through a Grieg (or Mozart or Brahms) quartet to the last note of So What! Unlike quartets of different instruments, there is a smooth transition from player to player especially during improvisations. It is nice, it is different, it is refreshing and it is still a relatively new art form in music performance. The quartet is committed to playing from the standard classical, contemporary, jazz and popular literature.

MMQ has played from Marshfield to Milwaukee WI, to Rockford IL and Tulsa OK. In August 2007, they traveled to Bethesda MD and Washington DC for two exciting performances. They delight audiences of all ages with their combined talents, virtuosity and personalities.
