John Olson is retired from the Madison School District where he was formerly employed as Assistant Superintendent and Director of Security and Athletics for the school system.

Since retirement, he has raised nearly $300,000 to support middle school sports programs and he is now initiating a fund raising effort to support high school sports programs. In that regard, he has been able to secure contributions totalling nearly $12,000 to open an endowment for Madison High School Sports with the Foundation for Madison Public Schools

John is looking for opportunities to present a short outline of what he believes are imminent reductions in high school sports that will negatively impact the children enrolled in the four Madison public high schools. He is seeking opportunities to speak to service clubs in greater detail about the needs of Madison Schools athletic programs and has a 20 minute presentation that he has presented to the West Madison Lions and the Madison Sports Hall of Fame club.

The flourishing growth of youth gangs and violence in Madison are threats that John wants to emphasize because of his past role as District Security Coordinator and his long term professional work with high school sports. He believes sports programs help keep students engaged in safe, supervised activities between 3 and 6 PM which is the most frequent period of arrest for the age group.
