History
Brief History of the Madison Arcatao Sister City Project: The Madison Arcatao Sister City Project (MASCP) as a member of the national network of U.S. - El Salvador Sister Cities (USESSC) has assisted and befriended sisters and brothers in El Salvador for over 21 years, through our sistering partner, the Association of Rural Communities for the Development of El Salvador (CRIPDES). This sistering began in 1986 as a response by U.S. citizens and residents to U.S. government intervention in the civil war in El Salvador. MASCP is one of Madison's ten official sister cities. Along with 20 other U.S. cities who sister with a Salvadoran community, we work in solidarity with our friends in the south for living wages, affordable housing, access to education and health care: struggles that we share in our communities. In a shared office in Madison, Wisconsin, MASCP and its parent organization, U.S. El Salvador Sister Cities work closely with local organizations and individuals to promote organizing locally and across borders on our common goals. This is an organizing model that involves an active commitment to community service in the U.S. and El Salvador and believes in organized citizen action. |
