Vendor Guidelines

5/05/2005

The McFarland Farmers' Market will be held on Thursdays, 2-6 pm, May 4 through October in the McFarland Centre parking lot, 5200 Farwell St.

Vendors may sell produce, plants, farm products, baked goods and crafts. All produce and products must be grown by the vendor or the vendor must participate in production. The market reserves the right to inspect your facilities for compliance. The best guideline, if you grow it or made it, you can sell it.

Appropriate licenses must be obtained as state inspectors visit the market annually. Sales tax must be collected on affected items. Check requirements for appropriate scales with the Department of weights and measures to meet state regulations. Expect inspections from time to time at the market by state or county health officials. If you sell organic products, you must display a copy of your organic certification before you can sell as organic.

Applications will be sent out to last years vendors in early March and will be used to assist in stall assignments, so get them in as soon as possible. We will use last years assignments as much as possible, but feel free to request changes and we will try to make accomodations.

Membership fees are $10 for the season. Daily stall fees are $3.

Full season stall holders would pay $75, including the membership fee, for the 26 week market.

Full season, double stalls are $120 for the 26 weeks.

Nonprofit organizations are invited to participate, space permitting, and membership and daily fees will be waived for them.

Produce vendors are encouraged to sign up for the WIC program offered by the state. Contact: Judy Allen, Vendor Coordinator, WIC and Seniors Farmer's Market Nutrition Programs at 608-261-8867.

Vendor stall Assignments; We went to assigned stalls last year for regular members at the market. This worked out quite well and we were able to accomodate all vendors. A few times we had a full market with as many as 30 vendors. The stalls are generally 8 feet wide, though 10 foot tents are accomodated. Double stalls are available to previous members of the market but will be charged more for the extra space. Old stall locations will be honored as much as possible, depending on seniority. We generally are not totally filled and new vendors will generally be accomodated. Contact Dale Marsden prior to coming if possible.

Additional policies

The market officially starts at 2 P.M. and vendors may set up in their assigned locations after 1 P.M. on market day and start vending. A Market manager should be there by 1 P.M. to assist. Vendor applications must be turned in before setting up. New vendors will be given a stall for the day and may sign up for partial season stalls for future markets.

Vendors will conduct themselves in a manner that is courteous to other vendors, market personnel and the public. If problems arise, contact one of the market managers.

Smoking is not prohibited but you are encouraged to respect the rights of the other vendors and the public by not smoking in the market area.

Vendors will not play loud music or make loud noises or disturbances. Also vehicles and other gasoline or deisel engines should not be left running during the market.
