MISSION & VALUES
The mission of the Mental Health Center of Dane County, Inc. is to provide individuals and families with high quality, community based, recovery oriented, mental health, substance abuse, and advocacy services that respect cultural differences and foster hope, strength, and self determination. We will give priority to individuals and families with high needs and low resources.
CULTURAL COMPETENCE
Values, beliefs, and norms affect all aspects of mental health, mental illness and alcohol/drug abuse, including the types of stressors people confront, whether they seek help, what types of help they seek, what symptoms or concerns they bring to clinical attention, and what types of coping styles and social supports they possess. Underlying cultural competence is the belief that services tailored to, and respectful of, one’s culture are more inviting, encourage people to access treatment, and enhance recovery.
RECOVERY
A recovery perspective focuses on the life, values, and strengths of the individual
and/or family versus illness or deficit. It enhances growth and promotes a sense of hope and empowerment.
CONSUMER ALLIANCE
Client and agency partnerships broaden our understanding of ’effective‘ services and are vital to the fulfillment of our mission. The MHCDC’s Consumer Alliance Office provides an important advocacy/educational link between consumers and service providers.
SERVICES
Children, teens, adults, seniors, and families have received MHCDC services for 55 years. With nine agency locations and outreach to community sites (homes, schools, workplaces, senior centers, etc), the MCHDC is one of Dane County’s largest community nonprofit agencies.
To access services, visit our main website at www.mhcdc.org/Services/services.html or contact our central swithchboard at (608) 280-2700. Please note that many programs have waiting lists.
