Wisconsin State Journal Article: COMMUNITY PAGES HELPS PROMOTE NONPROFIT GROUPS

SERVICE HELPS ORGANIZATIONS GET THEIR NAMES OUT INTO THE PUBLIC ARENA
6/05/2002
Dakarai I. Aarons Wisconsin State Journal

For those nonprofit organizations who have wanted a World Wide Web site but haven't had the means to create and maintain one, madison.com has the solution: the Community Pages.

"The idea is to help Madison-area nonprofit organizations benefit from the (Web) traffic madison.com receives," said Stephanie Cowan, moderator for Community Pages.

Organizations who want a Web site through Community Pages, communities.madison.com, contact Cowan, who gives them access to an online form where they fill in information about their organization. The technical work is handled entirely by madison.com, and the site is free.

Since Community Pages began in April, 65 organizations have launched pages, with an additional 105 pages nearing completion.

Sandra Lampman, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison, said having a Web site on Community Pages is a good way to give local organizations visibility.

"The best way to connect with people around the world is through the Web," she said. "The more people who learn about our organization, the more we can help."

Lampman said Community Pages helps organizations get their names out into the public arena and provides a resource where people can find a list of services available in the Madison community.

"There are an incredible amount of organizations and resources in this area, and to have them all consolidated in one place is a great thing," she said.

Madison.com is owned and operated by Madison Newspapers Inc., which publishes the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times.
