Wingra Creek Triangle Redevelopment

Today the Wingra Triangle, defined by Park Street, Wingra Drive, and Fish Hatchery Road, is isolated from the surrounding neighborhoods. Park Street, in particular, is a formidable physical barrier that keeps neighborhood residents from safely and easily reaching nearby businesses and services, such as Copps Foods, Dean Medical Clinic, and the South Madison Post Office. There are many opportunities within this triangle to redevelop underutilized lands to the benefit of the surrounding neighborhoods, employers, and all of South Madison. A recent City of Madison planning initiative, Wingra BUILD Redevelopment Concept Plan, lays out an alternative for the redevelopment of the area including an improved internal circulation system with better connections to the surrounding street grid, a mix of housing, commercial uses, public spaces to create a vital neighborhood center, and land use and development recommendations to accomodate the future growth of existing employers to increase economic stability and new job opportunities.
