Mission The mission of the Perinatal Foundation is to secure and provide resources to improve the health of babies, mothers, and families from preconception to early childhood. The Foundation pursues this mission by identifying current and emerging needs across the spectrum of perinatal health concerns; supporting research, education and model projects to meet those needs; working collaboratively with the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care to promote and implement effective perinatal practices; and securing and managing the resources that make the Foundation's work possible. The Perinatal Foundation was established in 1985. One of its founders, Thomas A. Leonard, M.D., believed that:
Perinatal Mood Disorders Initiative Since 2002, the Perinatal Foundation has spearheaded a multi-year "Perinatal Mood Disoders Initiative." The initiative has included several phases including a public awareness campaign, a "best practices" symposium, a set of regional conferences aimed at educating health care providers on routine screening and identification of women at risk for postpartum depression, and the production of materials for consumers in both english and spanish. The Perinatal Foundation continues to expand on the Perinatal Mood Disorders Initiative through 2005 and beyond. |
