-- and have more trains to travel | |
Some passengers from Wisconsin prefer to drive their cars to Metra stations at either Harvard or Fox Lake, Ill., and begin their train trips there. Fox Lake trains connect with Amtrak trains at Union Station in downtown Chicago, and may be the most desirable if you have luggage or require other assistance. Harvard trains terminate at the Olgivie Transportation Center about three blocks north of Chicago Union Station, and require a walk or short taxi trip to connect with Amtrak. Here are more details on both routes: FOX LAKE (Milwaukee District North Line to Chicago Union Station) For route, station location and services, parking and other information, go to Fox Lake station. For the same type of information if arriving at or departing from Chicago Union Station, go to Union Station. In addition, Bob Hirschy of Richland Center offers this additional information about using the Fox Lake station, a favorite of his: "The Metra station in Fox Lake is located just a block from US 12. Coming from Wisconsin, go into Fox Lake on US 12. Turn left (east) on IL 132. Go one block to the Metra tracks. The station is on the left. Parking is available adjacent to the station or across the street to the south or across the tracks to the west. Cost is $1.00/day.
"Tickets for the trains are available in the station or on the train if the ticket office is closed. Parking can be a problem from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, but is generally available after 4 p.m. Weekends are no problem." HARVARD (UP Northwest Line to Olgivie Transportation Center) Station, parking, and other information is available at Harvard station. For Olgivie Transportation Center information, go to Olgivie Center. SYSTEM-WIDE MAP For a complete system map, go to map. |
