Tens of Thousands are Hungry in Southern Wisconsin
and often they are invisible
|
Most residents of this part of the state can't imagine that there are an estimated 103,000 people who do not always have the food they need to maintain their health and strength. 39,000 of them are children. 10,000 of those children live in Dane County alone.
Hunger exists here
but it is often invisible because you often can't tell who is hungry by appearances. For most of us, our image of hunger has come from seeing pictures of severely malnourished children in Third World countries the victims of famine and starvation. In America, those who are hungry can look just like your neighbor. They aren't sure where their next meal is coming from or when. We must accept that hunger exists and vow to meet one of life's most basic needs for each man, woman and child. There is Enough Food to Feed Everyone There is no good reason that 103,000 people much less 39,000 children should go to bed hungry tonight in this part of Wisconsin. There is enough food in this country to feed everyone if we work together to link the available food to those who need it.
Second Harvest is that link. Your donations of time, talent, and food and financial support make that link work.
