Weekday Lunches

Lunch is served Monday-Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Quaker Housing, 2025 Taft St.; Romnes Apartments, 540 W. Olin Avenue; Madison Senior Center, 330 W. Mifflin St.; and Brittingham Apartments, 755 Braxton Place. Cost is on a donation basis up to $5.75 for adults 60 and over. Call 251-8405 by noon the day before to reserve a meal, or to cancel.

Free Blood Pressure Checks

Free blood pressure screening is offered at Romnes Apartments, 540 W. Olin Ave. at 11:00 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month.

Neighborhood Senior Center Activities- Gentle Exercise
Date: 6/16/2009
Through: 8/18/2009
Gentle exercise classes for those with aches and pains are offered at Romnes Apartments, 540 W. Olin Ave., on Tuesdays 10-10:45 a.m. An MSCR instructor leads stretching and breath awareness exercises that can be done standing or using a chair. Cost for summer session is $15. Call 204-3023 to register.

Madison Generations Fishing Trip
Date: 7/15/2009
Older adults are invited to join a fishing trip to the Jenni and Kyle Preserve, together with the kids from CDI Day Care. Depart from Quaker Housing at 9:00 am. Enjoy accessible fishing among two spring-fed ponds stocked with trout and panfish. A fishing license is needed, it can be obtained at Walmart or by calling 877-945-4236. Fishing poles and bait will be available at the park.

Sunday Afternoon Courtyard Picnic
Date: 7/19/2009
Head to the Madison Senior Center, 330 W. Mifflin Street, on Sunday, July 19, for a courtyard picnic. Although the Senior Center will be closed in July for remodeling, the courtyard will be open for this special Sunday gathering. Arrive by 12:30 p.m. to enjoy a meal of barbecued ribs on the bone, potato salad, fruit ambrosia, coleslaw, corn muffin, and peach cobbler. Entertainment will be provided by award-winning cowboy yodelers KG and the Ranger. Saddle up your imagination as they take you for a ride to the Old West with vintage cowboy songs and lariat-spinning tricks. Afterwards, play bingo to wrap up the afternoon. Reservations are needed by noon on Friday, July 17; call 251-8405. Cost is $3.50 at the door. Free transportation is available from the near south side.

Lite & Healthy Cooking Class

Devote two afternoons to try preparing salads, entrees, and desserts that are healthy and lower in calories, yet still taste great! This cooking class meets on Wednesdays, July 29 and August 5 from 1:30–4:30 pm at Quaker Housing, 2025 Taft St. All food, equipment, and recipes are furnished. Cost is $4 for those 62 and older. Register by calling MATC at 246-6240 by July 17.

Hawaiian Party
Date: 7/30/2009
Bring the grandchildren to a Hawaiian Party at Romnes Apartments, 540 W. Olin Avenue, at 2 p.m. Come in Hawaiian attire and enjoy a hula dance performance, games, tropical refreshments, and fun! Free of charge.
