What Is The University League, Inc.?

The University League is a non-profit organization open to all women and men. It is dedicated to promoting educational and social activities for its members, and supporting scholarships that benefit students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Founded in 1901 by University faculty wives to build community and foster friendship among those who lived and worked on campus, the League annually plans a series of general meetings of a cultural or educational nature. Several of these events are designed to include spouses and friends.

A wide array of interest groups helps foster friendship. These smaller groups meet one or more times a month, usually in members' homes. Mutual interests and talents are shared and members help newcomers orient themsleves to a large campus in a new city.

University League members may also volunteer in a variety of service projects associated with the UW.

One of the most satisfying aspects of membership might be taking part in the annual scholarship benefit. Monies go to support both men and women students and are distributed to every School and College at the UW-Madison.
