2006 Highlights

Our 10th year featured the following achievements:

Madison

Completed the cleanup of contaminated soils at 201 S. Ingersoll in Madison and opened it for public use. Our first festival, La Fête de Marquette in Central Park, presented internationally known musicians to more than 5,000 fans!

Bought and conserved more land for Central Park. With the successful acquisition of another parcel on Brearly Street, the combined holdings of the Center for Resilient Cities and the City of Madison now add up to half of the total land needed to complete Central Park.

Milwaukee

Launched the Greater Johnsons Park Health Coalition. The Coalition is dedicated to addressing priority concerns—including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes—in the surrounding, primarily poor, African American community. Johnsons Park is being transformed into a unique outdoor home for health and safety programs.

Entered into contract with Milwaukee Public Schools to transform the Brown Street Academy school ground from a bleak, concrete yard to a healthy, green space; giving students diverse play and educational opportunities while addressing stormwater problems in the surrounding community.

Created and implemented the Green Seedling Early Action Program. This program provides small grants to projects in Milwaukee's Fondy North area that demonstrate quick, tangible on-the-ground results in urban forest restoration and other types of sustainable urban greening. This year, cash awards were made to four pioneering organizations.

Green Bay

Negiotiated the preservation of nearly two acres of Fox River waterfront in downtown Green Bay.

Statewide

Provided technical assistance to municipal, community, and nonprofit partners in Wisconsin's largest cities: Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay.
