The Woman's Club of Madison was founded in 1893. It was to be open to the free and full discussion of all subjects of literary, social, philanthropic and general interest. The first regular meeting was held in April 1893 with 96 women attending.
Some of their projects in their formative years included scholarships, kindergartens,a contagious hospital. They worked for the construction of the Madison General Hospital, distribution of litter baskets on city streets, garbage disposal, appointment of a woman to the school board.
During these early years, tne policy of the club was being formed and the things we do now as regular procedure had their inception during these years. The club was recognized by "Madison Magazine" in 2000 for its contributions to the city.
After the sale of a building, once owned by the club the money was invested and each year donations are made to charitable groups.
Activities today include the monthly luncheons and four bridge clubs and a bridge marathon.
