WMLL Girls Softball Details & Info

Everything you always wanted to know about Girls Softball at West Madison Little League!

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PLAY SOFTBALL?

Girls ages 8 through 18 (as of Dec. 31 of the prior season) who live in the Madison West, Madison Memorial or Middleton-Cross Plains public school attendance areas can play in our league. Unless an area exception is made by the Board of Directors, the player must satisfy both provisions to be eligible. If you live in a community that does not offer a "Little League" program, contact us as you may be eligible to play at WMLL. National Little League rules allow participation in only one Little League program at a time.

WHAT IS THE PLAYING LEAGUE STRUCTURE?

Players are generally placed into leagues based on age.

Minor League -- 8,9 and 10 year olds

Major League -- 11 and 12 year-olds

Junior League -- 13-14-15 year-olds

Senior League -- 15 and 16 year olds

Big League -- 16-18 year olds

NOTE: Senior and Big League teams are only fielded if there is enough interest

WHERE ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?

Jefferson Middle School Softball Diamonds and WMLL diamonds. The Senior and Big Leagues may involve a traveling team. Check the official WMLL website for details after March 1st.

WHEN ARE GAMES PLAYED?

Season play begins in late-May and concludes the end of July. Games will primarily be played on weekday evenings, with the possible exception of the Senior Lg. Each team will have practices as well, at the coach's discretion.

HOW DO YOU REGISTER?

Registration is done by mail. Applications may be downloaded online at "www.wmll.org," or by contacting one of the volunteers listed at the end of this information.

CAN YOU REQUEST TO BE ON A TEAM WITH A SIBLING OR FRIEND?

Players from the same family will be placed on the same team if the individuals are in the same league. However, parents may request that siblings be placed on different teams. Only Minor Lg players may request to be placed on a team with one friend (buddy). We will honor this buddy request only if you and your friend both indicate each other as buddies on your registration form.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO PLAY AT WMLL?

The fee for each player is $155 if you register by 2-8-09 ($170 after this date). The fee covers: field rental and maintenance, umpire costs, hats, shirts, pants, socks, equipment, and other program costs. All fees must accompany the application, with your check as your receipt. Discounts are available for families that have more than two players in our leagues. Scholarships are available for Title I families. To take advantage of these provisions, simply fill out the appropriate areas on the registration form.

WHAT IS THE SKILLS CLINIC AND WHO IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND?

Once a child's registration is accepted, there are no "cuts". Certain players must attend a skills clinic held each spring at one of the area High School gyms. The skills clinic is designed to promote parity among our teams by giving coaches an opportunity to see players prior to the league drafts. Our aim is to have well balanced teams.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL SCHEDULE FOR THE SKILLS CLINIC AND WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING?

The skills clinic is scheduled for late March or early April at the Memorial High School field house. Check the official WMLL website for this year's time schedule after March 1st.

WHAT TO BRING TO SKILLS CLINIC

1) Players new to WMLL must bring their official birth certificate

2) Glove and gym shoes

3) Bat and batting gloves, if you wish
