June Writing Activity

Write three paragraphs about the most interesting or strange thing that happened to you this week. How did you feel when it happened? What did you do? When you finish, alternate the viewpoint. Tell the same story from the point of view of:

  • Another person
  • An insect or animal
  • Someone who can see into your thoughts, who knows your feelings and intentions better than you do
  • After completing the second version of the story, ask yourself:

  • What are the limitations of the new viewpoint?
  • Were there parts of the original story that were easier to explain in the first person point of view?
  • What are the advantages of the second point of view?
  • Was there new information exposed in the second story?
  • Did looking at the story from a new viewpoint change your thoughts and feelings about the event? In what way?

    "I defined a woman's duty. To look the world in the face with a go-to-hell look in the eyes; to have an idea;
    to speak and act in defiance of convention." -Margaret Sanger
