About Us

Ygdrasil. This unique literary group began on December 4, 1896 with 13 charter members whose common goals were "the promotion of good fellowship and the advancement in knowledge," particularly of Scandinavian literature. With a name such as Ygdrasil, it may be understood that having a Norwegian heritage is desirable for membership. The Society is an educational tax exempt organization that is supportive of the UW Scandinavian Studies Department.

The Society holds monthly meetings from October to May with the May meeting held on the 17th, known as Syttende Mai. In addition, business meetings are held in the fall and spring. The monthly meetings are open to members, their spouses and guests.
