PR and Membership CommitteeZonta Club of Madison welcomed seven new members. We also had two members who did not renew their membership, leaving the Club at a membership of 25 as of May 31, 2008. We met our goal of 25 members through the new-member recruitment efforts of a number of Zonta Club of Madison members.
Mentoring of new members has been strong. Each new member is assigned a mentor and the previously adopted mentoring materials are used to give structure to helping familiarize new members with Zonta and helping them establish a meaningful role for themselves in the Club. Tammy Hagen has been coordinating new-member/mentor group meetings this year.
The Club invested in permanent nametags for all members. The new engraved nametags were presented to members at the February 20 Club meeting. Members are encouraged to wear the nametags at all Club meetings as well as in community settings when representing Zonta Club of Madison.
The Club display was put up at the May 1 Zonta Zing providing background information on the club and membership opportunities. A lot of good public information was accomplished as an integral part of club activities - primarily the Zonta Zing fund raiser and the domestic violence Purple Silhouette project. Future silhouette displays will have more information identifying Zonta. Work with Domestic Abuse Intervention Services continues to raise the visibility of Zonta among professional women, as well as the public at large.
2008/2009 goals include: (1) Move public relations more to the center of the Committee's work to maximize PR opportunities through current projects as well as the emerging efforts in public education regarding human trafficking. Zontian Sandy Peterson has agreed to give leadership to designing and implementing a strategic approach to Club public relations. (2) Achieve a total of 30 Zonta Club of Madison members effective no later than May 31, 2009, by focusing on personal contacts with potential members and utilizing contacts with other professional women through club service and fund-raising projects. An emphasis will be placed on recruiting younger women to membership.
