  • Area organizations have been recognized with 2004 Wisconsin Forward Awards for organizational excellence, performance and improvement. Central Wisconsin Center, St. Mary's Care Center, Meriter Hospital and Physicians Plus Insurance Corp. are Mastery Award recipients. St. Clare Meadows Care Center, Baraboo; Springs Window Fashions, Middleton; and the state Department of Transportation received recognition at the proficiency level.

  • The sauce at Smoky Jon's #1 BBQ Restaurant, 2310A Packers Ave. in Madison, finished second out of several hundred entries in the People's Choice competition at the National Barbecue Convention on Feb. 19 in Houston.

  • Jim Daggett, a general contractor with Daggett Construction in Sun Prairie, recently served on the President's Advisory Council of Ceco Building Systems of Columbus, Miss.

  • Kurt Peterson, director of sales for Clear Channel, a radio station operator at 2651 S. Fish Hatchery Road, has been nominated for Director of Sales of the Year as part of the 2005 Radio Wayne Awards.

  • Thomas Long, a controller at LTCI Partners in Madison, was recently certified in long-term care insurance coverage by the Corporation for Long-Term Care Certification.

  • Galena, a marketing and communications firm in Prairie du Sac, has been certified as a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women's Business Development Center.

  • James Soehnlein, a civil engineering student at Madison Area Technical College, has been awarded a $750 scholarship by the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association.

  • Forward Wisconsin, a publicprivate organization that markets the state's business community, at 201 W. Washington Ave., has received an excellence award from the Mid-America Economic Development Council for the creation of www.forwardwi.com, the organization's Web site.

  • Brian E. Butler and Daphne Webb, attorneys with Stafford Rosenbaum, 3 S. Pinckney St., have been included in "The Best Lawyers in America." n Eric Burki and Randy Wilde, electrical engineers with Marshall Erdman & Associates, recently passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam.

  • Doug Adams, Paul Adams, Gerald E. Breitsprecker and Dan Pagenkopf of Lancaster; Arlyn Henkel and Tom Parrish of Fennimore; Bill Schier and Reggie Schier of Glen Haven; Mike Meier of Beetown; and Roy Mumm of Cassville have been elected to one-year terms as District 1 representatives of Swiss Valley Farms dairy cooperative.

  • Jim Zradicka, a carpenter foreman with J.H. Findorff & Son, 300 S. Bedford St., recently received the Community Service Award from Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin.

  • Brian Froehlich, a construction apprentice with Corporate Contractors in Beloit, recently won third place in the carpentry category at the Associated Builders and Contractors annual Construction Skill Competition.

    Keith Schmidt a construction apprentice with North American Mechanical in DeForest, won third place in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning category.

  • Rob Crothers, president of Voyager Builders in Sun Prairie, was recently honored as Builder of the Year and Green Built Supporter of the Year for 2004 by the Madison Area Builders Association. Mike Vilstrup, builders sales representative for United Building Centers in Middleton, was honored as Associate of the Year. Doug Widish, sales manager of Gerhards Kitchen and Bath Showroom of First Supply in Monona, was honored as New Member of the Year. Pam Stokes, a sales representative for Acker Floor to Ceiling in Fitchburg, and Pete Horton, managing partner of Sierra Concepts in Madison, received President's Awards.

  • Stark Company Realtors' Relocation Division, 2980 Arapaho Drive, has been nominated for an Award of Excellence from RELO, a national relocation service network.

  • Planet Propaganda, an advertising and design company at 605 Williamson St., recently received five Good Design Awards from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture & Design.

  • Lilly Herrick, vice president of relocation services for Prudential CBD Realty and Melissa LeGrand, vice president of corporate relocation, recently received relocation certification from Prudential Real Estate Affiliates.

  • Daryl E. Crawmer, director of technology for Thermal Spray Technologies in Sun Prairie, has been named a fellow of ASM International, a metals and materials society.

  • Joel Stone of Madison recently received the Christy Dixon Recycler of the Year award from the Associated Recyclers of Wisconsin for his work as a natural resources educator with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

    Portage County received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Recycling.

  • Kutter Harley-Davidson in Janesville and Sauk Prairie Harley- Davidson/Buell, Sauk City, were each named one of the top 10 fundraising Harley-Davidson Dealerships for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 2004.

    The Janesville Chapter of South Central Wisconsin Harley Owners and the Sauk Prairie Harley Owners Group of Sauk City also were honored for fund-raising efforts.

  • O'Mara Moving Systems, a North American Van Lines moving agency at 2430 Pennsylvania Ave., recently received the 4-Star Quality Service Award from North American Van Lines.

  • Sara Anderson, assistant sales manager at First Weber Realtors, 2985 Triverton Pike Drive, Ron Lestikow, a real estate agent at the 429 Gammon Place office, and Scott Suchomel, a relocation and commercial specialist at the Sun Prairie office, were recently recognized by the company for their contributions to the company and their community service.

  • Debra Lins, president and chief executive officer of Community Business Bank, Sauk City, was recently named Professional Business Woman of the Year for 2005 during the Business Women's Expo in Middleton.

  • Kevin Devine, owner of Devine Write in Edgerton, has been honored for his book "Building Your Business Plan, 28 Days to Designing and Running Your Business," which was named Best of Show at the Chicago Chapter of the Society for Technical Communications.

  • Lorman Iron & Metal Co., a scrap metal recycling company in Fort Atkinson, recently achieved full ISO 9001-2000 Certification from the International Organization for Standardization.

  • Two Madison-area executives and an academic have been elected to the board of the Wisconsin Economic Development Association, a group that advocates business growth initiatives throughout the state. Bob Cook, executive director of the Transportation Development Association in Madison; Andrew Lewis, a community development specialist at the UW-Extension's Center for Community Economic Development in Madison; and Karna O. Hanna, executive director of the Sauk County Development Corp. in Baraboo, will serve three-year terms.

  • Timothy L. Christen, chief executive officer of Virchow, Krause & Co., has been re-elected treasurer of the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce board of directors. Tod B.
