Closer Look: Hy-Vee Grocery StoreBy Patricia SimmsHy-Vee is an employee-owned corporation operating 225 retail stores in seven Midwestern states, This is the first Hy-Vee grocery store in Wisconsin.
Located on East Washington Avenue two blocks east of Stoughton Road, the new store has been designed, constructed and operated to be eligible for LEED certification (Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design). LEED certification is a process, so final result of the effort to gain certification won’t be known until operations begin and representatives of the U.S. Green Building Council assess the supporting documentation. A staff of 400 to 450 employees is expected, including a chef and a registered dietitian who will provide nutrition advice to staff and the community. Operating 24 hours a day, the new store will include a HealthMarket featuring natural and organic products, a Caribou Coffee shop, a pharmacy with drive-through pick-up window, a sports shop and a Hy-Vee Club Room with mirrored cooktop for classes, meetings, parties and special events. Store opening date: November 2009
