Six-member board oversees ethics code

The Ethics Board has six members appointed by the governor and serve staggered six-year terms.

No member of the board may have been a member of a political party, a partisan political organization or a candidate for partisan office for one year before being appointed and while serving on the board.

The board, aided by Executive Director R. Roth Judd, administers the state's lobbying law and the code of ethics for state officials. In its latter capacity, it handles complaints of violations and advises public officials of possible conflicts of interest.

The board's Internet site, http://ethics.state.wi.us, has information about all bills pending before the state Legislature and about every lobbying organization that has taken a position on a bill.

The board collects financial statements required of public officials and candidates for public office, and makes them available to the public at 44 E. Mifflin St., Suite 601, Madison, Wis., 53703. Information: 266-8123.
