POSTprint Mortem

Well, then. That's it.

The print edition of Post is no more, with the August edition being the last one we'll be producing for the foreseeable future. I'm glad that we were able to try it out, and I've gotten a lot of great feedback about what we did with it, but the bottom line is that the advertising support did not ramp up fast enough to justify publishing a print version of Post.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Heuvelman for his hard work in creating the print edition in the first place, and Matt Everson of Astuteo for redesigning the publication when we switched to a monthly format. Thanks also to S.J. Barlament for serving both as editor of the print publication and as a liaison to local bloggers, and to Jesse Russel of Dane101 for filling in as a guest editor while S.J. was out of town. And to everybody else out there who has helped us in any way -- by shooting the covers (which have been great, by the way, and which have improved pretty much from issue to issue), by letting us republish their posts in print, by guest-posting and contributing in various other ways, and by helping us put together 15 issues of what I think still remains a pretty interesting print product, I offer my sincere gratitude.

Post will continue to exist as a web site, of course. In fact, one of the reasons we're shuttering the print edition is so we can turn our attention to improving the web site -- a directive that has suffered a bit due to how much time and energy the print edition has taken to get (and keep) together. The web site will continue to be committed to the idea of championing the local entertainment scene, of course, and I hope that by re-focusing our energies, we'll be able to help drive the local blogosphere forward, too.
